Prof. Dr. Gerald Siegmund

Prof. Dr. Gerald Siegmund studied Theatre Studies, English Studies and Romance Studies at the Goethe University in Frankfurt/Main. In 1994, he wrote his dissertation on “Theatre as Memory” and then earned his habilitation at the Justus Liebig University Gießen with a thesis titled “Absence. A Performative Aesthetic Model of Dance”. Following working for several years at the University of Berne, Switzerland, he was appointed professor of Applied Theatre Studies at the University of Giessen in 2012, where he now works as the managing director of the Institute for Applied Theatre Studies. Gerald Siegmund has also worked as a journalist and critic. His areas of expertise include modern theatre and contemporary dance, theatre theories, performance and the border zone between theatre and other art forms.
