German Literature Fund

The German Literature Fund supports all literary fields.

This fund focuses its funding activities on writers and literature promotion projects. The Literature Fund awards working grants to German writers for concrete literary projects. Twice a year, the jury reviews and selects applications from writers based on exposés and submitted samples of writing. Furthermore, the fund awards five monetary prizes each year (including the prestigious Kranichsteiner Literature Award) which is a unique way of supporting excellent writers.
The German Literature Fund also awards application-based grants to literature promotion projects which encourage literary reception or organize discussions with writers at schools and universities, non-university seminars on literary criticism, dramatist workshops, symposiums and national literary magazines. In some cases, funding is also awarded to publication projects with a focus on German contemporary literature and measures to safeguard important present-day literary traditions. The German Literature Fund also promotes contemporary literature with public readings in Darmstadt and Dresden.
 

German Translator Fund

The German Translator Fund awards working grants, travel grants, and residence scholarships to translators who translate into German. The application-based grants are awarded twice a year on March 31 and September 30, and the translator-in-residence scholarships in Arles and Visby are awarded once a year on March 31.
