Wanderlust - Fund for International Theatre Partnerships
The Federal Cultural Foundation's Fund Wanderlust awards funding to German municipal and state theatres which would like to establish long-term partnerships with foreign theatres. The goal of the fund is to support partnerships in their entirety, i.e., those that involve the exchange of artistic personnel, reciprocal guest performances and joint theatre productions. Project applications are selected by the Executive Board of the Federal Cultural Foundation based on the recommendations of an independent jury.
Funding Criteria
Home Game - Fund for Theatre Projects
The Federal Cultural Foundation established the Home Game fund to support outstanding theatre projects which address the urban and social reality of their cities. With these funded projects, HOME GAME hopes to attract new target audiences to theatres and initiate a discussion concerning the role of (city) theatre in Germany.
HOME GAME awards funding to artistic and cultural projects developed and carried out at a theatre or in close cooperation with a theatre. The projects should have a model character in terms of the goals of HOME GAME. Furthermore, the project should feature a pedagogical aspect and involve the participation of other city organizations and public-interest groups in order to ensure a long-term impact. Therefore, applicants should emphasize these criteria in their project proposals.
Funding Criteria
Performing Arts Fund
The Performing Arts Fund is a registered association that supports outstanding projects in the fields of dramatic arts, musical theatre, dance, dance theatre, puppet theatre, youth theatre, performance, multimedia projects with a strong focus on the performing arts, satirical revues, circus and acrobatics, and theatre and dance pedagogy. The jury tends to award funding to projects that are marked by an especially high degree of quality and artistic innovation.
The Performing Arts Fund focuses its funding efforts on four main areas: 1) experimental projects with a model character; 2) larger, also longer-term model projects that provide significant impulses for the further artistic development of the performing arts; 3) events and projects which encourage a high degree of artistic exchange, e.g., festivals, conferences, publications and workshops; 4) projects that focus on active artistic education and encourage cooperation between the performing arts and other related institutions and professional fields, e.g., educational institutions, cultural centres, media firms and publishers. The jury meets twice a year to award funding to new projects. Established independent groups, ensembles created specifically for a project, private institutions and organizations, as well as individual artists can apply for funding and are given priority over public-sector applicants (such as municipal organizations).
The Performing Arts Fund has expanded its funding activities to include theme-based projects based on calls for proposals. Third-party financing is not required as the applicants are awarded sufficient funding to realize these projects.
National Performance Network
With the Dance Plan Germany, the Federal Cultural Foundation supports the coproduction funding of the National Performance Network (NPN).
The NPN supports the national exchange of contemporary dance by funding cross-state cooperative ventures between event organizers and dance groups.
The funding now provided by the Federal Cultural Foundation has enabled the NPN to expand its guest performance funding to include 900,000 euro of coproduction funding effective for the entire Dance Plan funding period until 2010.
This funding is targeted at individual artists and dance companies that collaborate on productions with event organizers in different German states or different countries and whose artistic work has national significance. Applicants must be situated in Germany and the majority of the project has to be carried out in Germany. To be eligible for coproduction funding, applicants are required to form a cooperative venture between two partner organizations from different German states with a foreign partner, or between a West German and East German partner. The coproduction funding can cover up to 50 percent of the project's production costs.
