Deutschland 2009
In 2009 Germany will commemorate two of the most significant events of recent history - the division of Germany 60 years ago and the fall of the Berlin Wall 20 years ago. The Federal Cultural Foundation is contributing three large projects to the upcoming commemorative events of 2009.
Funding culture in the new German states
In contrast to West Germans the reunification confronted East Germans with the reality of a globalised world community. In this regard East Germany is both unique and exemplary of the process of growth taking place between Eastern and Western Europe. The cultural implications of such a unification process have created some of the most challenging issues facing Germany today. Since the cultural changes in the new German states are so dynamic, the Federal Cultural Foundation invests a great deal of resources into East German cultural projects. These range from preserving our “cultural beacons” to supporting clubs and associations at a local and regional level.
