Dacha Europa. The End of the World As We Knew It
A joint programme by the Munich Kammerspiele and the Smeds Ensemble, Helsinki (Finland) - supported by the Wanderlust Fund
The Finnish writer and director Kristian Smeds and two fellow artists are members of the nomadic Smeds Ensemble. His situational productions focus on the relationship between local and international issues and perspectives. In a first step the Smeds Ensemble will present their video installation "Der Kirschgarten" and two productions in Munich. Smeds will then head a theatre laboratory to develop the content and form of a joint theatre production titled "Verbrechen und Strafe" (Crime and Punishment). The piece based on Dostoewsky’s novel and its characters will be presented in Munich and Helsinki. The Munich Kammerspiele hopes that the collaboration with Smeds Ensemble will generate new ideas for a performance venue, which, in contrast to typical productions at municipal theatres, is more strongly tailored to production and presentation forms by international and freelance artists.

The Wanderlust Fund
The German Federal Cultural Foundation established the Wanderlust Fund to support German municipal and state theatres that wish to engage in a partnership of exchange with a foreign theatre for a period of two to three seasons.
Wanderlust blog
In February 2010 the participating theatres began sharing their impressions of their joint meetings, workshops, guest performances and co-productions in our Wanderlust blog. In addition each season, three Pfadfinder (scouts) head out and visit the Wanderlust projects, describe the international theatre partnerships and document these exciting cross-border encounters in texts and images.
