Wanderlust – Fund for International Theatre Partnerships
Funding criteria
1. The Federal Cultural Foundation's Fund for International Theatre Partnerships supports German theatres which would like to establish a partnership with another theatre abroad. The fund helps theatres finance the exchange of artistic personnel, guest performances and co-productions. The goal of the fund is to build and strengthen an international theatre network between the German theatre scene and theatres in Europe and around the world.
2. Funding recipients can include German municipal and national theatres, city theatre consor-tiums, state theatres, non-profit theatres and all other theatres which are largely subsidized by their state or the federal government. The theatres must have an ensemble of their own which can participate in the project as needed. The signatory must be the general theatre director of the applying institution.
3. The Federal Cultural Foundation can award a maximum of 150,000 euro per project.
4. Applicants must co-finance their partnership with at least 25 % of their entire project budg-et with either their own resources or third-party financing. The cofinancing must be secured as cash resources. The theatre management is required to provide a written statement confirming the allocation of any of its own resources which it intends to invest in the project. If third-party financing has been acquired, applicants must submit the legally-binding funding notifi-cation, contract or comparable written statement of consent.
5. Funding is awarded as a non-repayable grant. Operational funding and funding for projects that are currently running are excluded. The grants are regarded as partial financing and are based on financial shortfall. Recipients are not legally entitled to funding. Paragraphs 23 and 44 of the Federal Budget Code, the administrative regulations and the applicable Administra-tive Ordinance regulations apply to the approval, payment and accounting of funding, the proof and review of expenditures, as well as the possible withdrawal from the funding con-tract or reclamation of funding. Funding payments can only be effected after the funding con-tract has been made.
6. Applicants are required to use the online funding application which will be available on the Federal Cultural Foundation's website in November 2007. The Foundation will only consider applications which are completely filled out and include written statements by the project's artistic directors or participants with comparable responsibilities.
7. For partnerships starting in the 2009/2010 season, please submit applications no later than 15 October 2008. The submission deadline for partnerships starting in the 2010/2011 is 15 October 2009. The Executive Board of the Federal Cultural Foundation is responsible for selecting projects that merit funding, based on the recommendations provided by an independent jury of experts. The Executive Board provides the jury with relevant documentation on projects which it considers suitable for funding and summons the jury at regular intervals. The jury's decisions are made in closed session.
8. These funding criteria take effect on 1 October 2007 and are subject to change.
