Acts of Voicing
An aesthetic and socio-political localization of the voice
This exhibition examines the politics and poetics of the voice in contemporary fine arts, dance, performance and theoretical discourse. It portrays the interactions between the fine arts and performance and explores possibilities for redefining the stage and exhibition space. The project focuses in particular on those areas in which the voice traditionally does not play an essential role, e.g. the “mute object” in the fine arts, the mute body in dance, and the silent written word in theoretical discourse.
The project will hold two workshops in Stuttgart and Hong Kong, where the exhibitions in Stuttgart and Seoul will be prepared. The participants include the project’s curators, cultural studies scholars, fine artists, dancers and choreographers.
The exhibition at the Württembergischer Kunstverein is experimental in that the scenario will change every two weeks in several acts. The art association will also create an “Open Space” – a model successfully tested in 2011 – available to members, students, visitors and partners for staging programmes, presentations and performances related to the exhibition’s topic, thereby providing a wider forum for debate.
