1984 Ph.D. in German Studies. Thesis on: "Künstler und Gesellschaft. Zu den Libretti und Schriften des jungen Richard Wagner” (Artist and Society. The librettos and writings of the early Richard Wagner). Supported by a scholarship of the "Studienstiftung des Deutschen Volkes” ("magna cum laude”)
