Prof. Dr. Norbert Lammert

President of the Bundestag, Member of the Board of Trustees of the Federal Cultural Foundation

Born in Bochum on 16 November 1948, catholic, married with four children.
Following secondary schooling in the classical humanities, studied Political Science, Sociology, Modern History and Socio-economics at the University of Bochum and Oxford University from 1969 to 1975. Diploma in 1972, doctorate in Social Sciences in 1975. Lecturer of Political Science and an honorary professor at the Ruhr University in Bochum.
Member of the CDU since 1966. Chairman of the CDU Ruhr district association from 1986 to 2008. Member of the German Parliament since 1980. Parliamentary State Secretary from 1989 to 1998, first at the Federal Ministry for Education and Science (1989-1994), then the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs (1994-1997) and finally the Federal Ministry for Transportation (1997-1998). German Aerospace coordinator from 1995 to 1998. Parliamentary Vice President from 2002 to 2005, and since 18 October 2005, President of the German Parliament.
