Manuel Gogos was born in Gummersbach to a Greek father and German mother. He studied Philosophy, Comparative Literature and Religious Studies in Bonn, where he later earned his doctorate in Comparative Literature with a dissertation on Jewish Diasporic literature (“Philip Roth & Sons. On the Jewish Family Novel”, Philo & fine arts, 2005). Between 2002 and 2005, Manuel Gogos worked at the Documentation Centre and Museum of Migration (DOMiD) in Cologne as part of the “Migration Project”, initiated by the Federal Cultural Foundation. He then established himself as a freelance writer, exhibition maker and consultant with specialisation in the area of migration research, and specifically the “museumisation” of migration. Manuel Gogos is also a freelance literary critic, author of radio play features and a film maker.
