Curriculum vitae of Marius Babias

Marius Babias studied literary studies and political science at the Freie Universität Berlin. He works in Berlin as a curator, art theorist and university instructor. He has served as the director of the Neuer Berliner Kunstverein (n.b.k.) since 2008. In 2005 he was the commissioner of the Romanian Pavilion at the Venice Biennale. Babias has curated numerous exhibitions, such as Das Neue Europa for the Generali Foundation Vienna (2005), Public Art Bucharest (2007) and L’Europe en devenir at the Centre Culturel Suisse in Paris (2007). In 2006 he was the co-curator of the Periferic Biennale in Iaşi, Romania. Between 2001 and 2003 Babias served as artistic co-director together with Florian Waldvogel at the Kokerei Zollverein | Zeitgenössische Kunst und Kritik in Essen. In addition to writing for various publications as an art critic, he has worked as a guest professor of art theory and communication at the Städelschule in Frankfurt/Main, the University of Art and Design in Linz, Austria and the Center for Contemporary Art in Kitakyushu, Japan. In 1996 Babias was awarded the Carl Einstein Prize for Art Criticism.
