There is little knowledge of the history of disabled performing arts and little experience of works using artistic audio description, relaxed performance methods, poetic sign language, crip dramaturgy or plain language. We are therefore happy to take theatre journalists with us, holding preliminary discussions, explaining the context of our holistic work on artistic and structural accessibility at Kampnagel, accompanying interviews with the artists and providing background resources. Raising awareness also means repeatedly emphasising that this work is not a nice-to-have, but rather part of our overall social mission to achieve the goals of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, namely the right to cultural participation.
