Electricty
The E-WERK Luckenwalde is a former lignite power station which now functions as an art and cultural centre and is used as a regenerative art-electricity power plant. In autumn 2026 the venue will present a new exhibition entitled “ELECTRICITY” featuring a commissioned piece by Asad Raza and an extensive public programme, jointly developed with multidisciplinary artist Asad Raza.
Raza works with the infrastructure and history of the power station and presents energy not only as a utility service, but also as a phenomenon which can be experienced first-hand in space. In close cooperation with the E-WERK’s art-electricity lab and professional technicians, the exhibition integrates energy systems into the artistic process.
Sculptural installations and sensorial spatial interventions serve to convey the history of the site. The exhibition is accompanied by a public programme in three parts: “Electric Sublime”, “Electric Power” and “Electric Earth” featuring films, performances, music and symposiums. The programme’s contributors include Doug Aitken, Tati au Miel, Cecilia Bengolea, Daniel Birnbaum, Harun Farocki, Ana Mendieta, Hans Ulrich Obrist, Philippe Parreno, Claudia Rankine, Rachel Rose, P. Staff, Sung Tieu, Adrián Villar Rojas and Abbas Zahedi.
