Project

The contemporary and experimental music festival Maerzmusik will be celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2027. It will use the occasion to review the achievements of past years and highlight “time” in the musical sense. What type of temporality makes music possible and what new perspectives pave the way to unconventional performance practices? What acoustic or music rituals – repetition, silence, slowness – are capable of interrupting the linear temporality of capitalistic modes of operation? The festival will explore these questions together with local and international composers, sound artists and philosophers. The focus of this festival edition is Southeast Asian music traditions. Non-Western artists are invited to critically evaluate the history of the musical canon and create space for collective ideas, caring and responsibility.

The Maerzmusik Festival 2027 is funded through General Project Funding by the German Federal Cultural Foundation.
