project description
Hardly anyone has done more to introduce gender and race in Concept Art and Minimalism in the past 50 years than the contemporary artist and philosopher Adrian Piper. Throughout her career, her artistic works have highlighted and questioned both the conditions and the reception of artistic production. In a solo exhibition at the Portikus in Frankfurt am Main, Piper presents two spatial installations which reflect both her artistic and philosophical research into self-awareness and identity in relation to social norms. In “I’m the Tree” and “I’m the Screen”, she invites the viewer to question – especially in view of climate change – seemingly fixed images of oneself and others.
