Project
With “HEALLAND”, the Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe Hamburg (MK&G) is presenting the first comprehensive exhibition of the American artist Nick Cave (b. 1959) in Germany. Internationally renowned for his installations, textile works and performative sculptures, Cave has received little recognition in Germany to date. As a fashion designer, dancer, choreographer and professor, he works closely with various communities to address issues of social justice. His works offer positive instruments of self-empowerment, such as the “Soundsuits”, opulent costumes that represent a protective space against violence and discrimination. Taking a hopeful perspective, the exhibition aims to create a space for healing in collaboration with local groups. A magazine documenting the results will be published at the end of the exhibition.
