Love is A verb
Can love – as a collective practice of caring – offer a path forward amidst the turmoil of our time? “Love Is a Verb #2”, which premieres at the HAU Hebbel am Ufer in autumn 2026, examines how a once intensely personal concept has become socialised and can be viewed in political terms. Drawing on Paul Preciado’s “Dysphoria Mundi”, Hannah Arendt’s “Amor Mundi” and Gargi Bhattacharyya’s, “We, the Heartbroken”, the festival regards love as a welcoming, resistant attitude, and heartbreak as a sign of a revolutionary mindset. It examines the impacts of global crises on relationships and probes the phenomenon of love in artistic, performative and discursive formats. The project’s feature installation is the “Vessel of Love” in HAU1 – a space for encounter, exchange and, possibly, transformation.
