Mapping the Provinces

Art project in a rural setting

Rural regions are rarely used for displaying so-called "art in public space". Mapping the Provinces has invited fine artists to incorporate works of art, such as video pieces, installations or public art throughout the farming region between Hildesheim and Derneburg. The artists worked closely with the residents of the local villages and farms to create their artworks, and in so doing, contributed to the development of the region. The hope was that by confronting the viewers with the uniqueness of landscapes and the corresponding artistic positions they inspire, they would become more conscious of the cultural identity of rural regions.
