Artistic installation by Dominique Hurth on textile production at the women’s concentration camp in Ravensbrück

Machines drone, needle tugs the thread, sharp knife glints, slices asunder and stabs...

In May 2025 the Ravensbrück Concentration Camp Memorial Site will be commemorating the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the former women’s concentration camp. For this occasion, it is planning an exhibition with an installation by the French fine artist Dominique Hurth to be presented in two phases from May to October 2025. Hurth, who has been researching textile production in Ravensbrück since 2017, will integrate objects into the installation which have never been shown to the public before. Furthermore, the piece sheds light on the history of violence and the economic structures of the Nazi era and their lasting impact which continues to be felt today. In combination with accompanying events, the exhibition aims to encourage further scientific research and international dialogue regarding forced labour and crimes perpetrated by the Nazis.

Exhibition: Ravensbrück Concentration Camp Memorial Site, Fürstenberg/Havel: 1 May – 30 Oct. 2025
