Tanya Lukin Linklater
The Canadian Sugpiaq artist Tanya Lukin Linklater interweaves elements of dance, performance, video, sculpture and texts into her transdisciplinary works. These often establish a complex relationship between the body, language and memory. Starting in spring 2026, she will present a new spatial installation for the Kunsthalle Portikus at the Städelschule in Frankfurt am Main, comprised of textiles and cedarwood, a material which holds special significance for many indigenous cultures in North America. Reams of linen, sequins and blankets are draped from the wooden rafters – materials that were gifted to the artist in the context of indigenous rituals. Visitors weave their way through the lengths of fabric, setting the work in motion with their bodies. The installation is supplemented by a new aquarelle that emphasises water – the bearer of history, movement and life – as a central element of Lukin Linklater’s artistic practice and makes direct reference to the location of the Portikus over the Main River.
