9th Festival of the ADEvantgarde

Thematically and spatially, the ninth ADevantgarde Festival tackled the Munich landmark "Königsplatz." Two projects, the opera "Rise and Fall" and the performance/Singspiel "Mithras' Tears," explored the history of the square. New music amalgamated with performance, opera, and theatre, unraveling new spaces, such as the basement of the University of Music and Performing Arts Munich. In addition to the thematic complex "Königsplatz," ADevantgarde presented for the third time a musical theatre for children entitled "Rotkäppchen, lauf!", which retold the fairy-tale of Little Red Riding Hood. Moreover ADevantgarde presented the first big orchestra concert in ten years together with the Munich Chamber Orchestra; the concert dealt with Futurism's influence on contemporary music. Singer Pur's vocal concert gave rise to "quiet sounds" whereas "Young Lions II" featured works by emerging composers, whom the festival has always endorsed. A concert dedicated to the French composer Tristan Murail concluded the festival with works by Murail, his students and his teacher Messiaen, performed by the Munich ensemble piano possibile.
