Forum Zeitgenössischer Musik Leipzig [FZML]
Naumburger Str. 28 C
The Ensemble Festival was initiated by the Forum Zeitgenössischer Musik Leipzig (FZML) and the Ensemble Tempus Konnex. In this first edition, the festival sets its sights on music of the East. During the four-day biennial festival, well-known ensembles of contemporary music from China (ConTempo Beijing), Japan (Ensemble NOMAD), Russia (Moscow Contemporary Music Ensemble) and Germany (Ensemble Musikfabrik, Tempus Konnex) will perform their latest works in the musical city of Leipzig. Several world premieres and numerous European premieres will celebrate the transnationality of music-making and probe the boundaries of electronic music, video art and media art. The ensemble ConTempo Beijing will present several pieces including one by Jia Guoping and will offer a master class on traditional Chinese instruments. The Ensemble NOMAD will perform works by Japanese composers and commission two compositions to be presented for the very first time during the festival. In addition to works by Alexander Khubeev and Vera Ivanova, the Moscow Contemporary Music Ensemble will present a newly commissioned piece as well. The two ensembles from Germany will present several works including the latest compositions by Chaya Czernowin and Enno Poppe, as well as intermedial works by Johannes Kreidler. The festival will also host workshops and lectures to promote young new talent in cooperation with cultural and media institutions in Leipzig. In addition, the Ensemble Festival 2020 will be hosting an international composition competition.
