Musica Sanae

With its project “Musica Sanae” the Polish-based In Situ Foundation investigated the influence of sounds on human health. Taking a retrospective view, it has searched for answers to questions like: In what way do sounds affect our sense of well-being? What techniques can serve as a basis for the medicinal application of sound? And what role does scientific and technological progress play in this context? Using these questions as a starting point, an international team of artists and experts from wide range of disciplines has examined the history of acoustic-medical instruments and therapies. They then compared the results of this investigation with contemporary forms of hearing (and listening) and current notions regarding health and well-being. In concerts, presentations, lecture performances, installations, readings and film screenings, the findings have been presented at thematically related locations, such as decommissioned hospitals and sanatoriums in Naples, Sokołowsko and Berlin. A publication will document the project.
