Spectral Dialogues
The project “Spectral Dialogues” by the ensemble gamut inc explores how communication between humans and machines is changing in response to the use of current AI technologies. If verbalising thought is an essential part of thinking, then how will thinking and speaking change when we relinquish verbalisation to machines and only interact with them by way of short prompts? Large language models (LLMs) represent a fundamental change in communication with regard to interpreting prompts. Users only need to sketch the rough contours of their argumentations and desired conclusions, while LLMs fill in the complex details automatically. With the aid of newly developed modular organs, large projections, acoustic and electronic music, light and re-synthesised language, gamut inc will create a resonance chamber that invites visitors to reflect on the artificiality, authenticity and effects of AI technologies on human cognition. The project is being organised in collaboration with the Acoustics department of the Fraunhofer Institute, German Book Prize winner Frank Witzel, actress Ursina Lardi and software developer L Wilson-Spiro. The works will be presented at the end of 2026 at Silent Green Berlin, the Felicia Festival in Magdeburg and the Cricoteka in Cracow.
