Description

What does the future hold for classical music? This question will be the focus of a three-day nationwide Ideenfestival – a “festival of ideas”. In light of the many challenges we currently face, the festival will explore ways in which we can work together to shape the future of classical music. Over fifty national and international cultural workers, artists and academics will share their knowledge through workshops, keynote speeches, panel discussions and short concerts. The festival is aimed at everyone involved in the classical music scene, including concert dramaturges, cultural managers, organisers, musicians and composers.

The festival will address key topics in contemporary music-making. How do contemporary concert programmes sound? How can institutions and ensembles continue to work successfully in the future? And what role does the audience play? The Ideenfestival provides insights into strategies, projects, current debates and tools. The search for new concert dramaturgy and the expansion of the concept of classical music will be discussed, as will contemporary approaches to the traditional repertoire and its critical reflection. The role of concert rituals and audience participation will be questioned, and workshops and discussions will explore the skills needed to further develop ensembles, festivals and concert halls in the face of the great challenges of our time. However, we do not want to just talk about music – on both evenings, short concerts will offer insights into current programmatic developments.

The Ideenfestival is part of the funding programme “tuned – Netzwerk für zeitgenössische Klassik” (Network for Contemporary Classical Music). Through this programme, the German Federal Cultural Foundation promotes innovative approaches that offer alternatives to traditional concert practice. The programme comprises three components: a nationwide festival network (Beethovenfest Bonn, Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern/detect classic festival, Mozartfest Würzburg, PODIUM Esslingen, Thüringer Bachwochen and TONALi Hamburg), workshops for developing ideas and exchanging knowledge, and the tuned Ideenfestival zur Zukunft der Klassik.
