29th annual Leipzig Jazz Days – Jazz from Poland

Explanations

The 2005 Leipzig Jazz Days will focus on a special and more recent chapter of German-Polish cultural history. More than anywhere else in the former East Bloc, jazz was considered a window to freedom in Poland. Since jazz was able to develop more freely in the former GDR, the Polish jazz scene was significantly influenced by its contacts with East Germany. This exchange will now be revived in Leipzig where young Polish musicians of a new generation will perform together with the jazz pioneers of the 1970s and 1980s.
