Project description

With its climate-neutral project “Truths”, the Theater Regensburg and the city community have teamed up to stage a theatrical obstacle course which aims to sensitise the public on the resources required for our personal mobility. For four days in summer 2023, vacant rooms and premises in downtown Regensburg will serve as the performance venues for the ensemble members. The event locations are all within walking distance of one another and are linked as a tour that will conclude in the theatre’s main auditorium.

The results of the theatre’s carbon footprint assessment completed in spring 2022 are being incorporated in an infrastructural and citywide project with a high public impact. The assessment revealed that mobility was one of the major culprits in the theatre’s carbon footprint. Currently, almost 50 % of all theatre goers travel to and from the theatre by car. The aim is to reduce this amount to 10 %, e.g. by means of a long-term, gamification-based communication strategy, a multi-tiered pricing model which encourages the use of environmentally friendly modes of transportation, and the provision of e-bus service on demand. The project organisers have also considered the impact of theatre sets and energy supply, e.g. by committing to a no-waste strategy and acquiring energy-efficient equipment. The latter will potentially be made available to Regensburg’s independent theatre scene.

To emphasise the significance of the topic within its organisation, the theatre’s climate protection officer was granted management level status, and collaboration with the external project office WHAT IF for Sustainable Culture was intensified.
