Project description

With "Dracula – Forces of Darkness", the Puppentheater Halle is bringing probably the most famous vampire in literary history to the stage. The new production, based on motifs from Bram Stoker's novel, takes its cue from the novel's Icelandic translation, which in turn is to be based on an earlier, more detailed and more drastic version of Stoker's novel. For the first time, the team around artistic director Christoph Werner is working on this production with the internationally acclaimed Norwegian-French puppeteer and actress Yngvild Aspeli and her company Plexus Polaire. In addition to the virtuoso use of life-size puppets, director Aspeli stands out for her play with different levels and perspectives of the narrative. In "Dracula – Forces of Darkness", not only is the play with the expressive puppets combined with the company's acting, but also impressive video projections with the music of Ane Marthe Sørlien Holen. The result of this interplay is a multi-sensorial narrative in which the dark, intimate atmosphere of the Dracula story is condensed and sensual. The audience experiences the story from the point of view of one of Count Dracula's victims thanks to a further, added narrative character and dives into the subconscious of young Lucy, who is plagued by nightmares and sleepwalking. The themes of dreams, split personalities and madness are particularly present in this variation on the vampire myth, which unfolds in a rather subtle and less bloody way in this cooperation between the Compagnie Plexus Solaire and the Puppentheater Halle.
