Hass/Μίσος

For its upcoming project “Hass” (Hate), the Theaterhaus Jena is collaborating with the Greek theatre company Spektrum AMKE and the Theatro Technis in Athens on two theatre pieces that shed light on social inequality and marginalisation in Europe. The starting point is the cult film “La Haine” (“Hate”) by Mathieu Kassovitz (1995). In its German adaptation, director Daniele Szeredy sets the story in Jena-Lobeda (Thuringia), where the right-extremist group NSU was founded. A mixed ensemble of German, Romanian and Greek actors portrays a generation facing social upheaval and rising fascism. The Athenian version, “24 hours in a world that doesn't belong to us” by Pantelis Flatsousis, is staged as a mockumentary with an almost entirely female ensemble and explores the connection between images of masculinity and violence in Europe today. Guest performances of both productions will be held in Jena and Athens in early 2026.
