Noted. Danced. Replied

In their new production “Noted. Danced. Replied.”, the Dance On ensemble revives some lesser-known works by the Israeli artist Noa Eshkol (1924–2007) and contrasts them with a new work by the French choreographer Noé Soulier. The debut in spring 2026 at the Sophiensælen in Berlin will be followed by additional performances this summer at the Tanzwerkstatt Europa in Munich, and in autumn at HELLERAU – European Centre for the Arts in Dresden.

The Dance On ensemble works exclusively with distinguished dancers over forty. In its fourth “Reply” project, the group examines how the extremely ephemeral movements of dance can be preserved and passed on – not in a strictly archival sense, but rather through productive investigation. To this end, members of the Chamber Dance Group established by Eshkol will study selected compositions with the Dance On ensemble as the embodied transferal of Eshkol’s work. Her pieces are known for their stringent, reduced and musical character and have been documented with a notation that precisely describes the motions. Soulier will then develop a free, contemporary “reply” that doesn’t mimic but rather explores the space between systems of movement, epochs and bodies. His choreography shifts, contradicts and makes connections.

The artistic works will be documented by the European research project DanceMap, the results of which will be integrated into a digital platform that makes choreographic knowledge systematically accessible to everyone. The project’s education programme is targeted at older people with restricted mobility in senior care facilities in order to facilitate creative participation.
