People, Cars and Oil. The Carmakers of Barcelona and Stuttgart

A joint programme by the Staatstheater Stuttgart and the Teatre Romea in Barcelona (Spain) - supported by the Wanderlust Fund

Barcelona and Stuttgart are centres of the automobile industry. Corporations like Daimler and Seat are among the cities' most important employers. Both cities are closely connected through the numerous companies and branch offices of their suppliers - so much so that decisions in Stuttgart can directly affect the working conditions in Barcelona and vice versa. The crisis that has taken hold of the entire branch will have an impact on these cities and their inhabitants. The Staatsschauspiel Stuttgart and the Romea Theater, managed by Calixto Bieito, will send a team of writers and dramaturges to their partner city to listen to the life stories of car factory workers and employees on location and gather facts about car manufacturing in general. On the basis of this research, the writers will develop theatre texts that will be performed on stage in Stuttgart and Barcelona.
