Shared Spaces

Platform and network for theatres in Hannover and Kinshasa

The Royal Flemish Theatre (KVS) in Brussels and the Theaterformen festival have independently initiated numerous partnerships between artists from Europe and emerging and developing countries worldwide. They have been collaborating on a joint project titled “Shared Spaces“ which aimed to establish an international network of cooperation to promote long-term exchange in the field of performing arts and bundle the activities of its partners.
In 2013 the project took place in two parts during the Theaterformen festival in Hannover and the Festival Connexion Kin in the Congolese capital of Kinshasa. Both festivals presented the first “Shared Spaces” co-productions. In addition, a number of young theatre artists from countries with less well-developed contemporary theatre scenes have been invited to an international academy where they collaborated with experienced theatre mentors. All the projects and insights gained from the event have been made available online.
With its guest performance projects and improved continuing education and performance opportunities, “Shares Spaces” strived to help artists gain more media attention and participate more actively in global exchange.
