The Thespis Theatre Network as a Platform for Dialogue and Cohesion
Funded by LOKAL – Programme for Culture and Engagement
Project description
Since 2018, the Thespis Centre has been offering a unique combination of theatre and social work. Here, people from Syria, Afghanistan, Ukraine and Russia, as well as those from Upper Lusatia — including members of the Sorbian minority — can take part in creative activities designed to address trauma and encourage dialogue between opposing viewpoints. As part of the Deutsch-Sorbisches Volkstheater Bautzen/Němsko Serbske ludowe dźiwadło Budyšin, the Thespis Centre has received nationwide recognition and awards for its festivals, such as “Willkommen Anderswo” (Welcome Elsewhere), as well as for its programmes, including language cafés and the children’s theatre club. With LOKAL, Thespis intends to focus primarily on women’s stories.
