Wiesbaden Biennale

Focus on “Making Space”

Projekt

Which locations in Wiesbaden ought to be commemorative sites? What blind spots still exist in the city’s history? These are questions the Wiesbaden Biennale addresses with its focus on “Making Space”. The programme begins by creating new places of encounter and commemorative sites in town. A performative installation will be placed in the Theaterkolonnaden where colonial goods were once presented to the spa visitors. A street leading past the location of the former synagogue on Michelberg will be closed off to traffic and used as a concert venue. A performative installation will draw attention to the “Kaiserfahrt” – an entrance reserved exclusively for the German emperor, leading directly to the theatre box – which is the only wheelchair accessible entrance in the theatre today. And inside a former colonial goods shop in downtown Wiesbaden, a project will highlight the continuities of exploitation in global trade. An audio walk will connect the sites and spaces together.
