Where to Now?

Topographies of Jewish life (and survival) after 1945

Where to now?

“Where to now?” was a question hundreds of thousands of Jews asked themselves after being liberated in 1945. The Munich Kammerspiele revisits this question in an artistic programme that examines the years following the Holocaust from a Jewish perspective. Central to the project are the fates of Holocaust survivors, such as Mordechai Teichner, who emigrated to Israel, and Philipp Auerbach, who as the Bavarian State Commissioner for Racial, Religious and Political Persecuted Persons worked to rebuild Jewish life in Germany and whose efforts were ultimately derailed by anti-Semitic attacks. Two world premieres and an accompanying programme of discussions, readings and student projects tie historic events to current questions concerning anti-Semitism and the culture of remembrance. The events are organised in cooperation with the Jewish Museum in Munich and institutions in Israel, such as the Haifa Cinemathèque.
