Potyah 76 – Train 76

Young ukrainian literature on tour

Until the Juri Andruchovych became successful here, Ukrainian literature was practically unheard of in Germany. Although many are aware that he recently received the Leipzig Book Prize for European Understanding, very few people know that he is also the initiator and "engine driver" of the Internet portal Potyah76. In the 1960s, Potyah 76 was an express train which crossed Ukraine, connecting Danzig to the Bulgarian coast of the Black Sea. Today, the train only services western Ukraine. The Internet portal www.potyah76.org.ua is a forum for contemporary Ukrainian literature and was named after the shortened rail link to symbolize the goal of reanimating an international literary dialogue. The Literatur Forum Südwest e.V. has developed a travelling book reading project of the same name and goal which will present nine Ukrainian writers in Berlin, Bonn, Freiburg, Greifswald, Leipzig and Stuttgart.
