Film festivals featuring gay, lesbian and other (sexually) non-mainstream groups have long become widely accepted in Germany and have a long tradition in the scene. Not so in Poland. The festival in Lódz will be the first in Poland which addresses the possibilities and forms of expression of this "queer" culture. The international scope of the festival is especially significant as gays and lesbians in Poland still have to struggle for acceptance. In fact, there is evidence that homophobia in Poland is on the rise. As a result, this film festival will have a volatile socio-political dimension which is difficult to imagine here in Germany.
