The Adendorf municipal library has launched a project which encourages children and adolescents, along with their parents, instructors and teachers to explore the possibilities and challenges of digital transformation. The library in Adendorf – a community of 11,000 residents – will cooperate with local preschools and schools. The project aims to motivate children and adolescents to engage with digital media in a creative manner. The organisers have developed age-appropriate events which forge a link between creative media usage and media criticism. While the preschool children will develop stop-motion movies using a picture book, the pupils in grade 7 will participate in an applied data-search training seminar. The workshops will take place during regular school hours at various educational institutions, as well as during the children’s holidays. These actions will be accompanied by info events for parents and special programmes targeted at educators and teachers which provide ideas for integrating creative media usage and criticism into everyday classroom instruction. The works created in the workshops will later be presented in the library as well as the children’s respective school.
The Adendorf municipal library wants to appeal to and gain the support of children, adolescents and their respective schools. It wishes to present itself as a place where ideas can be developed and shaped, and where multiple generations can meet and engage in dialogue.
