Project description

The Penzberg municipal library collaborated with the adult education centre (VHS) and community leaders to transform the rather drab looking Rathauspassage, a shopping arcade, into a central meeting place of cultural encounter – open and inviting to all citizens, irrespective of their origin, social status, religion or age. With this project, contributed to the plan of making downtown Penzberg more vibrant and attractive.

The project served as the framework for a series of participative workshops in which ideas for cross-generational formats and spatial performances were developed. The library offered workshops which integrate adolescents from various parts of town, recently settled families, and senior citizens, and collaborated with youth representatives, the local Islamic community and the music school, currently situated in the Rathauspassage. The resulting ideas were then tested in a room inside the Rathauspassage, specially designed as a “future lab”. A film project by the Penzberg adult education centre with adolescents and young adults accompanied the entire project – from the initial project presentation before the city council, to workshops with the city’s residents, to testing ideas in the future lab.

Project title: livingRoom Rathauspassage. Discovering perspectives. Recognising chances. Accepting visions. Building local identity. Thinking ahead.
