Project description

The Penzberg municipal library will collaborate with the adult education centre (VHS) and community leaders to transform the rather drab looking Rathauspassage, a shopping arcade, into a central meeting place of cultural encounter – open and inviting to all citizens, irrespective of their origin, social status, religion or age. With this project, the library hopes to contribute to making downtown Penzberg more vibrant and attractive.

The project serves as the framework for a series of participative workshops in which ideas for cross-generational formats and spatial performances can be developed. The library wants to offer workshops which integrate adolescents from various parts of town, recently settled families, and senior citizens, and to collaborate with youth representatives, the local Islamic community and the music school, currently situated in the Rathauspassage. The resulting ideas will then be tested in a room inside the Rathauspassage, specially designed as a “future lab”. A film project by the Penzberg adult education centre with adolescents and young adults will accompany the entire project – from the initial project presentation before the city council, to workshops with the city’s residents, to testing ideas in the future lab.
