With its new exhibition project “You are Another Me”, the Württembergischer Kunstverein (WKV) presents the continuation of its long-running research project by the filmmaker Adina Pintilie (*1980, Bucharest) who explores the poetic and political dimensions of intimacy and physicality. Inspired by the Maya greeting “You are another me”, this transdisciplinary and transcultural project applies various artistic media and formats to examine the myriad ways we engage with our own body and those of others.
The starting point of the project was Pintilie’s semifictional documentary film “Touch Me Not” which received the Golden Bear at the Berlinale in 2018 and was presented in the Romanian Pavilion at the 59th Venice Biennale in 2022. The film received international acclaim for its transgressive approach and unique aesthetic concept, condemning the psychological and physical violence often directed toward people with non-normative bodies.
With newly developed thematic, spatial and technical components, the exhibition at the WKV represents the first-ever presentation of the research project at a German institution. The 1,300-m2 exhibition is devoted exclusively to the human body and themes related to intimacy, boundaries, fear, trust and empowerment. New elements will be integrated into the exhibition, including excerpts from Pintilie’s latest film, a replica of a film set which will double as a venue for participative workshops, a newly designed installation of teleprompters and an interactive VR environment. In combination with an AV-enhanced six-channel video installation based on the film shown at the Romanian pavilion, the exhibition creates an aesthetic, performative and participative space of experience, thought and action.
