Bauhaus. A Conceptual Model

Exhibition commemorating the 90th anniversary of the State Bauhaus in Weimar

This exhibition presented a comprehensive portrayal of the historic Bauhaus movement from 1919 to 1933 and its international influence on the fields of design, architecture, modern art, interior design and pedagogy. The three German Bauhaus locations, Weimar, Dessau and Berlin, collaborated for the first time on such a project and cooperated with the Museum of Modern Art in New York. With their focus on the Bauhaus as a pan-societal phenomenon in an international context, the curators hoped the exhibition will initiate a scientific re-evaluation of the movement.
The extensive collections at the Bauhaus Archive Berlin, the Bauhaus Museum of the Foundation of Weimar Classics and the Bauhaus Dessau Foundation were supplemented by international loans, in particular works of fine art.

Project managers: Hellmut Seemann, Omar Akbar, Annemarie Jaeggi

Travel book and app

The project “Model Bauhaus” has just published the “Bauhaus Travel Book. Weimar. Dessau. Berlin” and released the app “BauhausGuide”.

The travel book offers a new perspective of the history of the Bauhaus model in three chapters. The journey takes readers from Weimar to Dessau to Berlin, highlights the legacy and landmarks of Henry van de Velde and Walter Gropius, visits the three museum collection in each city and reveals some of the lesser known facts about the State Bauhaus. Short essays are interspersed throughout and focus on aspects of the Bauhaus in the past and present.
