transAction - Sculptures of Transition

The Produzentengalerie Oscar e.V. (Producer Gallery Oscar Assoc.) in Chemnitz has established the Centre for Art and Communication in the former newspaper editorial rooms of the Chemnitzer Neueste Nachrichten, once used as the "Kammer der Technik" (Technology Room) in the former GDR. These offices are rich in media, technological and industrial-historic tradition and served as the venue for five exhibitions that presented current parallels between societal and artistic production. Five internationally renowned artists, including the Chemnitz-born Olaf Nicolai, have been invited to spend time working in Chemnitz. They put their own artistic signature on the exhibition venue by addressing its historic legacy of technology, industrial architecture and labour.
