Work

Exhibition Kunstverein Harburger Bahnhof – Funded in the „Future of Labour“ fund

The Kunstverein (Art Association of) Harburger Bahnhof planned a series of seven exhibitions for 2007 and 2008 titled "Work", "Love", "Power", "Sex", "Money", "Leisure" and "Future". The series began in January 2007 with "Work". The exhibition closely examined whether the system of traditional working society, which is based on performance, payment and control, is still valid today - a system in which an individual's work only has value if it corresponds to the fundamental requirements of production and maintenance. On one hand, the system is disintegrating because a growing number of people (can) no longer work (for money). On the other hand, work has increasingly infiltrated our social lives; friendship is work, love is work, sexuality is work, leisure is work, etc. The exhibition featured artistic pieces which subsume diverse aesthetic principles pertaining to the category of "work".

Participating artists: Harry Sachs, Franz Höfner, Markus Lohmann, Michael Böhler, "Unternimm die Zukunft" (Seize the Future), "Freizeit statt Vollbeschäftigung" (Leisure Time instead of Full Employment)

Venue: Kunstverein Harburger Bahnhof

Schedule: January to April 2007
