Bachfest World Premieres - St. Thomas Church in Leipzig

Commissioned compositions and performances

The world-famous Bachfest in Leipzig commissioned a new composition each year for three years which reflected the fascination and inspiration Johann Sebastian Bach provides for contemporary composers. The Chemnitz-born composer Friedrich Goldmann received a commission to produce a new work for 2008. In 2009, the Japanese composer Toshio Hosokawa presented his new piece for the festival. And in 2010, the festival featured the world premiere of a work by the English composer Sir Harrison Birtwistle.
