The biennial music festival ciphers. kiel days of new music aims to offer audiences a broad spectrum of New Music. Highly renowned ensembles and artists come together to perform contemporary works and other pieces related to the established repertoire of New Music. Regional artists and composers are strongly involved in the presentation of multimedia art and the promotion of young artists. Based on the motto New Music in the North, the fourth edition of the festival in 2012 featured the Stockholm-based ensemble KammarensembleN, which performed recent works by Swedish composers. The festival wished to dramaturgically highlight the very diverse profiles of the ensembles in terms of their complements and musical specialization. Cultural education was an important component of the festival, as it strives to establish itself as the hub of contemporary music in the Baltic Sea region.
