Hellerau Summer Academy for Experimental Musical Theatre

The European Center for the Arts, a member of the KlangNetz Dresden, invited artists and scholars to the Hellerau Summer Academy for Experimental Musical Theatre. The academy featured lectures by renowned experts and artists in the field of experimental musical theatre. The presentation of concrete projects was supplemented by evening performances and concluded with lavish festivities together with the arts colleges in Dresden. All the participants had the opportunity to present their own ideas, visions and concepts at a "project bar" and to apply for a short presentation.
The goal of the "Academy Project" was to combine training and praxis in concrete terms. Young artists and scholars were allowed to develop a new project under the direction of a renowned artist, which, following a one-year rehearsal phase, will be performed at the Hellerau Summer Academy in 2009. The summer academy 2008 began on June 30th with the premiere of "Mobile", directed by Manos Tsangaris, which was the Academy Project of summer 2007.

A coproduction by the European Center for the Arts Hellerau and the College of Music Carl Maria von Weber Dresden, in cooperation with the International Theatre Institute (iti - germany) and the College of the Fine Arts Dresden.
