Prinzhorn

The Prinzhorn Collection at the Heidelberg Psychiatric Clinic uniquely documents the artistic works made by patients in psychiatric institutions. The KlangForum Heidelberg commissions composers to write music with reference to texts and other forms of artistic expression in the Prinzhorn Collection. Established in the 1920s by the psychiatrist Hans Prinzhorn, the collection is extremely valuable in that the supposedly psychopathological expressions take issue with the conditions and forms of human creativity and demonstrate the difficulty of drawing a line between "normal" and "abnormal" behaviour. The project will be carried out in cooperation with physicians and cultural scholars.
