Radio Muezzin

The call of the muezzin was the theme of a documentary concert titled "Radio Muezzin". The piece was based on the city of Cairo, its soundscape and its people. Stefan Kaegi (Rimini Protokoll) worked closely with four muezzins and a radio engineer, whose personal stories served as a basis for exploring a diverse culture that is frequently reduced to stereotypes in Europe. Kaegi let the muezzins describe what is happening in their home country and worked together with them to create a new vocal expression that reflected the transformation of calls to prayer in an age of technical reproducibility.
