Project description

The dance project “Sustainable Partnership” by the Dresden Frankfurt Dance Company (DFDC) and the Festspielhaus Hellerau, scheduled to debut in 2024, addresses the question of how classical stage dance projects can be conducted in an environmentally-friendly and socially-sustainable way, and still go on tour as guest performances.

Half of the performances will take place in the main auditorium of the Festspielhaus in Dresden, and the other at Bockenheimer Depot in Frankfurt. The team is interested in working with local partners at the guest performance venues, and by doing so, minimise their travel needs, reduce their use of tech and set materials, and establish clearly defined recycling chains in the production processes.

With funding provided by the Zero Fund and under the aegis of the new artistic director of the DFDC Ioannis Mandafounis, whose term will commence in summer 2023, the project aims to actively address the challenges which arise from cross-city collaboration. Ioannis Mandafounis is developing a new performative dance concept for the accompanying programme which can be flexibly implemented at both venues. The concept is based on his method of focusing on conceptual, spontaneous and participative implementation without rehearsals and technical equipment.
