Theatertreffen 2008: Off to Berlin!

The jury of the Theatertreffen festival 2008 selected the ten most interesting German-language theatre performances of the past year. Productions from Frankfurt/Main, Hannover, Hamburg, Cologne, Munich, Zurich and two from the Deutsches Theater Berlin were invited "Off to Berlin" - which was the festival motto.

The 10 selected theatre productions were:

Michael Thalheimer / Deutsches Theater Berlin "Die Ratten" [The Rats] by Gerhart Hauptmann;
Jürgen Gosch / Deutsches Theater Berlin "Onkel Wanja" [Uncle Vanya] by Anton Cechov
Armin Petras / schauspielfrankfurt "Gertrud" by Einar Schleef;
Sebastian Nübling / schauspielhannover, Deutsches Schauspielhaus in Hamburg and the festival Theaterformen 2007 "Pornographie" [Pornography] by Simon Stephens;
Stephan Kimmig / Thalia Theater, Hamburg "Maria Stuart" by Friedrich Schiller;
Signa Sørensen and Arthur Köstler / Schauspiel Köln "Die Erscheinungen der Martha Rubin" [The Apparitions of Martha Rubin], A non-stop performance installation by Signa;
Thomas Ostermeier / Münchner Kammerspiele "Die Ehe der Maria Braun" [Marriage of Maria Braun] based on the movie by R. W. Fassbinder;
Stefan Pucher / Münchner Kammerspiele "Der Sturm" [The Tempest] by William Shakespeare;
Christoph Marthaler / Rote Fabrik Zürich and dieproduktion GmbH "Platz Mangel" [Lack of Space], a project by Christoph Marthaler;
Jan Bosse / Schauspielhaus Zürich "Hamlet" by William Shakespeare;

The members of Theatertreffen jury 2008 were: Eva Behrendt, Jürgen Berger, Karin Cerny, Stefan Keim, Hartmut Krug, Peter Müller and Christopher Schmidt.
The Theatertreffen took place from May 2 to 18, 2008 at the Haus der Berliner Festspiele in Berlin.
